Now that your teenager has started driving and is becoming more comfortable with the entire process you will want to decide if they should be allowed to drive others in the car with them. This may be covered by your state's driving laws but you will still need to make some decisions. Here are some things to consider when deciding about who rides in the car with your teen.

• What situations may arise that will make it necessary for your teenager to have passengers in the car? You may find it convenient for your teenager to pick up or drop off other family members at school or for other activities. If you and the other adults in your home work outside the home, it may help the family to have another driver to help with this. Another issue here is when your teen wants to drive other teens to a party or other type of social function. You may need to consult with the parents of the others teens before making any decisions.
• How is your teen adapting to the responsibility associated with being a licensed driver? Many teens are very responsible and follow the rules you have given them. If this is the case with your teen, you may want to give them more freedom about driving others, as long as you stay within the guidelines of your state laws.
• How long should your teen be driving before you make changes to the ground rules? Many parents give their teenager a six month trial period to decide how everything is going. Take a look at how your teen is behaving since they began to drive. Has the behavior changed in a positive or negative way? Discuss all of this as a family. Allow your teen to give input into this decision making process.
